CHICAGO - Head coach Nadia Edwards and the DePaul volleyball team continue their BIG EAST contest with a (7-10, 1-4 BIG EAST) record. The Blue Demons will host Creighton on Friday, Oct. 6 and Providence on Saturday, Oct. 7. Both teams will play at 6 p.m. CT in McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Multiple Blue Demons top the DePaul volleyball season leaderboard. Brittany Maxwell holds the most kills with 25, Claire Anderson owns most attacks with 60, Kelsey Horvath locks in 55 assists, and Haley Bueser holds 27 digs to lead DePaul.
There are four Blue Demons ranked in the current BIG EAST season statistics. Defensively, Bueser comes in second overall with 243 digs and Coffey is seventh with 53 blocks and ninth with a .336 hitting pct. Maxwell ranks sixth with 192 season kills and Anderson also holds ninth place with 182 total season kills. Horvath locks in eighth place with 379 assists.
Last Time vs. Creighton
The DePaul volleyball team fell short to BIG EAST-leading Creighton on Oct. 21, 2016 at McGrath-Phillips Arena, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19). Myah Reed and led the Blue Demons attack with 10 kills apiece. Rachel Breault led DePaul at the net with four blocks. Haley Bueser registered a match-high 13 kills to lead the defense.
Scouting The Blue Jays
Creighton ended the 2016 season by making their first Elite Eight appearance with a (29-7, 18-0 BIG EAST) record. The three-time defending BIG EAST champions were picked to win the 2017 conference title in the Preseason Poll. The Blue Jays are currently ranked second in the BIG EAST (11-4, 4-0 BIG EAST). Creighton just swept Seton Hall on Friday, Sept. 29 and St.John's on Saturday, Sept. 30, both 3-0. The Blue Jays will head down to Chicago after playing Marquette on Thursday, Oct. 5.
Last Time vs. Providence
The DePaul volleyball team closed out a four-game home stand on Oct. 22, 2016 with a sweep of visiting Providence, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-22). Caitlyn Coffey led the Blue Demons on offense with 14 kills and added three blocks and two service aces. Haley Bueser registered 16 digs to lead DePaul defensively.
Scouting The Friars
Providence wrapped up the 2016 season with a (13-21, 1-17 BIG EAST) record. The BIG EAST 2017 Preseason Coaches Poll gave the Friars nine votes to be ranked 10th out of 10 possible teams. With four conference matches under Providence, they hold a (13-6, 2-2 BIG EAST) record and are currently ranked third in the conference. Last week, Providence dropped matches to St. John's and Seton Hall, both 3-0. The Friars will visit DePaul after a contest with Marquette on Friday, Oct. 6.
