Nordine, Bishop Lift Blue Demons Past St. Louis
St. Louis - After a mini-slump last weekend, the DePaul volleyball team found itself back on its accustomed track by disposing of St. Louis 3-1 (15-7, 8-15, 15-12, 15-6). The win moves the Blue Demons' record to 13-5 (4-2 Conference USA). Keyed by a rejuvenated offense, DePaul was sparked by middle hitter Melissa Nordine who registered 12 kills with just two errors. Kara Jakusz passed out 53 assists to aid the offense's efforts for improvement. "I thought we ran our offense really, really, well," said head coach Dawn Dockstader. "Kara spread the ball around and made sure we had every opportunity to put balls away all night long." While Nordine was able to provide a weapon in the middle, outside hitter Stephanie Bishop paced the team with 22 kills and hit .283. Her total nearly equaled the 28 kills she amassed in two matches last weekend and her hitting percentage was up from .116 a week ago. "We came back after a tough week and played pretty well. Now we just need to keep rolling as we head off to Charlotte," said Dockstader.
The Blue Demons travel to Charlotte to face the 49ers at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
