Fleener Selected to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Oct. 7, 2013
NEW YORK - After helping DePaul to its first conference win over the weekend, sophomore Abbie Fleener picked up a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod on Monday.
It was the second weekly award of the season for Fleener, who was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week just two weeks ago (September 23), and the sixth straight week with at least one conference award for DePaul volleyball.
A top offensive option for the Blue Demons, Fleener blasted 16 kills and hit .433 in a 3-0 sweep at Georgetown on Saturday. She added three block assists in what was DePaul's first conference sweep since 2011.
The team hit .330 in its first conference win of the season, which stands as its highest hitting percentage in a BIG EAST affair since November 16, 2008 (a 3-1 win home win versus St. John's).
For the week, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-native posted 22 kills overall and hit .450 during a road split for the Blue Demons.
She currently ranks 10th in the conference in hitting percentage (.318), kills per set (3.04) and points per set (3.49).
Now 14-2 and 1-2 in the BIG EAST, the Blue Demons will resume conference play on Friday, Oct. 11 at Creighton. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
