Volleyball Wins First Five Game Match Of Season
Charlotte-In three previous matches that had lasted five games, DePaul had not had success winning the deciding game. But, for the first time this year, the Blue Demons broke through in the clinching game to best division rival Charlotte 15-9, 12-15, 15-4, 8-15, 16-14. The win moves the team's record to 14-5 (5-2 Conference USA).
"This was a good match for us because we were able to go five and come away with a win," said head coach Dawn Dockstader. "We were 0-3 in five game matches before this, so it was a match we needed, to prove that we could win in five."
Stephanie Bishop led the team with 28 kills while hitting .274. This marked the fourth consecutive match and the 12th time this season she has led team in kills. Bishop added 18 digs which tied her with Katie Engel for the team high. Engel complemented Bishop offensively as well, chipping in 24 kills. Middle hitter Christa Dirr picked up 15 kills to give the Blue Demons three players with double digit kill totals. Setter Kara Jakusz handed out 65 assists in the win.
With Marquette losing to Charlotte Friday night, the pair of wins allows DePaul to assume sole possession of second place in the American Division of C-USA. The Blue Demons' next match will again be on the road as they travel to South Florida Friday, Oct. 13.
