Blue Demons Fall to Marquette in Three

MILWAUKEE, Wis.-  The DePaul volleyball team was unable to stop Marquette’s offense, falling in three games (30-19, 30-22, 30-25) Friday evening at the Al McGuire Center.  The Blue Demons fall to 7-12 overall and 0-3 in C-USA, while the Golden Eagles improve to 11-5 and 1-2 in C-USA.

 

The Blue Demons were up 8-5 in game-one, but stalled as the Golden Eagles went on an 11-1 run to take control of game.  Marquette took the first game 30-19, collecting its highest game hitting percentage, .432.  

 

Janet Goreham’s kill at 12-13 pulled the Blue Demons within one in the second game, however the Golden Eagles strung together a 10-2 run to put the game out of reach for DePaul.

 

The third game stayed close, but the Golden Eagles were able to pull out the win behind Theresa Coughlin’s five kills and three total blocks. 

 

Marquette finished the match with a .301 team attack percentage and had three players finish with hitting percentages over .300.  Sarah Vernon led all players with a .529 percentage, connecting on 11 kills in 17 attempts, she also tallied 40 assists for the Golden Eagles.   Erica Heisser and Coughlin led all players in total putaways, tallying 15 apiece. 

 

Amy Holmes led the Blue Demons collecting 12 kills and a .333 attack percentage.

 

The Blue Demons will return to action next weekend, visiting C-USA rivals, USF and UAB.  DePaul will face USF on Friday and UAB on Saturday; both matches are scheduled to begin a 2:00 p.m. CST.
