Volleyball Falls to UConn

Connecticut 3, DePaul 0


STORRS, Conn. -- The DePaul volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-28, 30-17, 30-22) BIG EAST match to Connecticut Saturday afternoon. UConn improves to 9-7 overall and 2-2 against BIG EAST competition while the Blue Demons fall to 3-12 and 0-4 in the BIG EAST.  


The first game proved to be the closest of the three games, as the Blue Demons tied the game for the first time at 20. The two teams tied the score three more times before the Huskies took a 28-27 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.


The early moments of the second game proved to be close for both teams, as the score was tied 11 times before UConn opened up a 17-16 lead. The Huskies then went on a 13-1 run to close out game two 30-17.


The Blue Demons again jumped out to an early lead in game three, but the Huskies roared back to tie the game at 11. UConn then took a 12-11 lead and never looked back, taking the game and the match 30-22.


Jenny Neelands engineered the Huskies offense, dishing out 39 assists and posted a .571 attack percentage. Megan Crawley led all players with 15 kills.


The Blue Demons were led by freshman outside hitter Caitlin Callaghan, who had seven kills. Denae Gibson  added six kills, while freshman libero, Maureen Zigulich picked up 11 digs.


DePaul will travel to New York to take on St. John's, Sunday afternoon 1:00 p.m. (CST).
