DePaul Downs UAB 3-0
“I am very pleased with the way my team played today,” head coach Dawn Dockstader said. “The women played amazing and Amy Holmes was able to step into the setting role and run the floor with precision and confidence.”
Holmes, who finished the match with a three-game season high 43 assists, started the match as the team’s setter. Holmes stepped into the role of setter for senior Amie West, who did not make the trip and is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
The Blue Demons offense put together their second best hitting performance of the year, notching a .319 attack percentage and 55 total kills. The 55 kills are the most the Blue Demons have accumulated in a three-game match this season.
“The offense was very aggressive this afternoon,” Dockstader added. “Holmes was able to place the ball wonderfully and as a result our hitters were able to find the wood.”
Sophomore Denae Gibson led the team with a .692 attack percentage, tallying 10 kills on 13 attempts. Junior Mandy Moorberg and senior Janet Goreham also finished the match in double-digit kill totals, recording 14 kills apiece.
The Blue Demons were aggressive from the first point, dominating the Blazer’s in each of the three games; holding the UAB to 24, 23 and 16 points respectively. Sophomore Ellen Hayes led the Blue Demon defense, notching a match high 17 digs. The Blazers were paced by Brianna Galvin who recorded 15 digs.
DePaul will be back in action tomorrow afternoon facing USF (3-11, 1-3 C-USA) at 2:00 p.m.
