Volleyball Travels to Southern Miss and Tulane

CHICAGO -- The DePaul volleyball team takes the court this weekend in two Conference USA matches looking to improve on its 14-4 record. On Friday, the Blue Demons face Southern Miss in Hattiesburg at 7:00 p.m. and travel to New Orleans to face Tulane on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. DePaul is 5-2 in Conference USA play, sitting in third place behind league leading Cincinnati and second place Louisville.

Blue Demon Bites
The Blue Demons disposed of Illinois State in three games 30-27, 30-26, 30-26 on Tuesday at the Athletic Center. The win snapped the team's three-match losing streak. Senior Stephanie Bishop made history breaking the conference's career record for digs. Bishop recorded 15 digs in the contest surpassing Kristen Guidish's total of 1,602 during her Houston career. Bishop now has 1,608 digs in her career.

Senior Christa Dirr also provided the Blue Demons with a lift recording 13 kills with a .321 hitting percentage. Junior Katie Engel pounded out 15 kills with nine digs and senior Melissa Murphy added 12 digs.

Closing in on Milestone
After breaking the conference career record for digs, Bishop is looking to add her name to the top of another list. Bishop needs 35 kills to become the conference career record holder for kills. She sits at 1,809 kills for her career trailing former Cincinnati standout Becky Tenkman. Tenkman finished her Bearcat career with 1,843 digs.

Southern Miss Stats
Southern Miss enters Friday's contest with a 2-6 conference mark and a 7-11 overall record. The Golden Eagles dropped a pair of matches last weekend to conference foes Memphis and Saint Louis. On Friday, Southern Miss fell to Memphis in three games 30-17, 30-23, 30-27. Southern Miss then fell to Saint Louis in five games on Saturday 27-30, 30-22, 33-31, 31-33, 15-8. Sophomore Nicki Tribble led the Golden Eagles with 20 kills and sophomore Bridget Files drilled 18 kills and 13 digs. Tribble leads the Golden Eagles with 257 kills on the season.

Tulane Tidbits
Tulane enters Saturday's match with a 13-7 overall mark and a 5-3 conference record. The Green Wave host Marquette in New Orleans on Friday. Tulane is coming off a four-game victory over New Orleans 25-30, 30-26, 30-13, 30-27 on Tuesday. Britney Hurst pounded out 25 kills with 13 digs while Anastasia Kenon added 20 kills with 15 digs. The Green Wave lost both its matches over the weekend falling to Saint Louis in five game and Memphis in four games. Hurst leads the Green Wave with 343 kills on the season and Kenon leads the team with 250 digs.

Last Meeting
Last season, DePaul defeated Southern Miss in the only meeting between the two teams. The Blue Demons defeated Southern Miss in four games in Chicago. DePaul is 2-3 against the Golden Eagles under head coach Dawn Dockstader and the Golden Eagles lead the overall series 4-2.

The Blue Demons lead the overall series 3-2 against Tulane and are 3-1 against the Green Wave under Dockstader. DePaul downed Tulane in four games last season in Chicago in the only meeting between the two teams.
