Blue Demons Stumble at Notre Dame
NOTRE DAME, Ind. The DePaul volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-12, 30-13, 30-15) BIG EAST Conference match to Notre Dame Friday at the Joyce Center. The Blue Demons fall to 5-16 and 1-7 in league action, while the Irish improve to 9-9 and 5-3 in the conference.
The Irish controlled the match with 45 kills and a .457 team attack percentage while holding the Blue Demons to a lackluster -.034. 12 players entered the match for Notre Dame, while eight finished with at least one kill. Kellie Sciacca and Adrianna Stasiuk paced the Irish with nine kills each and Sciacca added a team-high four total blocks.
Notre Dame's proficient hitting limited the Blue Demons offensive opportunities as DePaul registered just 22 kills in the match. Jacie Fiedler, Charla Drabant and Kyndell Highland each notched five kills.
Unable to find an offensive rhythm in game one, the Blue Demons tallied just six kills and hit a dismal -.036 as a team. Conversely, the Irish were unstoppable as they registered 19 kills for a match-high .600 attack percentage. Notre Dame won the first game 30-12.
Game two followed much of the same with the Irish dominating as they recorded 11 kills, five service aces and three blocks. Highland accounted for half of the Blue Demon's offense as she tallied four kills. The Irish took the second set 30-13.
The third game was highlighted with several rallies but the Irish's ability to terminate the ball prevailed as they won the final game 30-15.
Fiedler paced the Blue Demons defensively with seven digs and assisted on four blocks. Highland also contributed at the net with four block assists.
The Blue Demons break from league play on Tuesday, Oct. 23 when they welcome Chicago State to McGrath Arena for a 7 p.m. match. The weekend sends DePaul on the road for the final time this season as the team travels to St. John's and Connecticut Oct. 26 and Oct. 28, respectively.
