CHICAGO – The DePaul volleyball team heads into its mid-week matchup looking to make 13 into a lucky number when it welcomes Chicago State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the McGrath-Phillips Arena. The Blue Demons currently hold a 12-0 record all-time against the visiting Cougars and hope to continue that success against their Great West Conference opponent.

Tuesday’s non-conference contest marks the Blue Demons’ second mid-week matchup in as many weeks as they faced off against Western Illinois on October 18. Chicago State is also the second Great West squad on the DePaul schedule this season; the Blue Demons defeated the Great West's University of South Dakota in five sets in DePaul's second match of the season on August 26.

The Blue Demons (4-18, 1-7 BIG EAST) most recent battle, however, came on Friday night as the squad took on BIG EAST Conference opponent South Florida (9-12, 5-3 BIG EAST). In that match, DePaul ran into a staunch defense as the Bulls tallied 13 total blocks and held the Blue Demons to a sparse overall attacking percentage.

In that three-set affair, the Blue Demons played solid defense of their own, holding the Bulls to just .208 on the attack while knocking down seven total blocks. DePaul’s strong effort on the defensive side of the ball, including a match-high 18 digs by junior libero Kelsey Bowler, was not enough to shut down South Florida who seized early leads and improved its mark in BIG EAST play.

With her effort on Friday, Bowler currently sits at ninth in all of the BIG EAST in digs with 328. In conference-only statistics, the Naperville, Ill. native ranks eighth in digs with 131 while playing in three fewer contests than the league leader.  Bowler has registered at least 16 digs in each of DePaul’s last five matches and has totaled double-digit scoops in all but four matches this season as she has anchored the Blue Demons defense for much of the way.

Tuesday night’s match is set to stream live on BlueTube. The contest is also scheduled for live radio broadcast on Chicagoland Sports Radio. Past interviews with members of the Blue Demons volleyball team and game podcasts are also available on the site.
