Volleyball Falls to Memphis

CHICAGO- The DePaul Volleyball squad came up short Saturday evening, falling to C-USA opponent Memphis in three-games (30-32, 25-30, 25-30), Saturday evening at the DePaul Athletic Center.  The Blue Demons fall to 10-15 and 2-6 in Conference USA while the Tigers improve their record to 24-2 and 6-1 in Conference USA.

“I give a ton of credit to Memphis, they played a great game on the road,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said.

Powerful hitting from junior Janet Goreham and Lara Marks was not enough to tame the Memphis Tigers.  Goreham recorded a team high 12 kills and a .385 hitting percentage, while. Marks knocked down eight balls for a .375 hitting percentage.

“I am pleased with our middles, Lara Marks and Janet Goreham.  I am asked them to have a big night, and they came through,” Dockstader said.

The Blue Demons would capture the first points of the match but they could not stop Memphis’s Tiara Gilkey.  Gilkey would lay down six kills in a game-one and 11 for the match. Brittany Barnett notched a team high 17 kills for the Tigers.

Defensively, senior Janet Cotter led the Blue Demons with 14 digs.  Marks also assisted with five blocks.  DePaul tallied seven team blocks.

The Blue Demons will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Texas to take on TCU and Houston on Friday and Saturday.
