LOUISVILLE, KY – Despite senior Morgan Ingersoll's 11 kills the DePaul volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-14, 30-21, 30-18) match to
Louisville Saturday in BIG EAST action at Cardinal Arena. The win improves the Cardinals to 15-6 and 8-1 in league play while DePaul drops to 5-20 and are winless in nine matches in the BIG EAST.
The Cardinals were led by Tatyana Kolesnikova, who registered 15 of Louisville's 50 kills. Kolesnikova finished with a .520 attack percentage, while four other Louisville players finished with attack percentages over .500.
Louisville jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in game one and the Blue Demons were never able to recover. The Cardinals hits a sizzling .417 while DePaul mustered eight kills for a .094 attack percentage. Louisville won the first set 30-14.
Although the Blue Demons notched a match high, .175 attack percentage in the second frame the Cardinals offense combined for 16 kills and hit .342 to take game. The second set saw Louisville take a 21-11 lead. DePaul battled back to get within eight at 28-20, but it was too late as the Cardinals won 30-21.
The Cardinals hit a match high .448 in the final set and sailed to a 30-18 to close out the match.
The Blue Demons were out blocked by Louisville 9-0 and allowed the Cardinals nine service aces while serving zero aces.
Senior Ellen Hayes led the Blue Demon defense with 11 digs, while Caitlin Callahan, Stay Pando and Maureen Zigulich each chipped in seven digs.
The Blue Demons return to the court tomorrow in Cincinnati, taking on the Bearcats at 1 p.m. (CST) at Fifth Third Arena.
