Connecticut Tops DePaul
STORRS, Conn. The DePaul volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (30-22, 30-21, 30-21) loss to BIG EAST Conference foe Connecticut, Sunday at Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies have won their last three matches and improve to 15-9 and 5-5 in league play, while the loss drops the Blue Demons to 6-18 and 1-9 in the conference.
The Huskies used a balanced attack to dominate the match and trailed just once during the afternoon. Offensively, Rebecca Murray paced Connecticut with 14 kills and a .375 attack percentage. Defensively, Jessica Isacc led the floor with 19 digs and Bridget Denson-Dorman followed with 12. Denson-Dorman also dished out 35 assists and added five kills.
The Blue Demons struggled as unforced errors plagued offense and forced them to play catch-up all match. Offensively, DePaul hit an unimpressive .095 and committed nine service errors. Freshman middle blocker Jacie Fiedler paced the Blue Demons with nine kills and sophomore Sarah Cullen followed with eight.
Game one was all about the serve as the Huskies notched four service aces, while the Blue Demons committed five service errors. Offensively, DePaul registered 15 kills compared the Connecticut's 13, but the trouble behind the service line proved to be detrimental as the Huskies won the first game 30-22.
Connecticut heated up offensively in games two and three. The Huskies recorded a match-high .297 attack percentage in game two, and tallied 20 kills for a .264 percentage in the final game. Connecticut won both games two and three 30-21.
DePaul's defense was led by Kyndell Highland, Christy Landschoot and Cullen. The trio each finished with 10 digs, while the Blue Demons totaled 58 on the afternoon. Landschoot was also credited with 26 assists.
The Blue Demons close out the regular season at home as they host four BIG EAST matches in the next two weeks. Next weekend DePaul welcomes USF and Georgetown to McGrath Arena, while Louisville and Cincinnati venture to Lincoln Park Nov. 10 and 12, respectively.
