Blue Demons Fall at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The DePaul volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-17) BIG EAST match to Cincinnati, Sunday at the Fifth Third Arena.  The win improves Cincinnati to 17-5 and 7-3 in conference play, while the Blue Demons fall to 5-21 and 0-10 in conference action.

 

Cincinnati had a trio of players, Jessie Nevitt, Jessica Elley and Myanna Hellsten finish with 11 kills each, while the Bearcats hit .316 for the match.    Elley chipped in ten digs for a double-double, while Jamie Frey led all players with 19 digs.

 

The Blue Demons were unable to find an offensive rhythm as they hit .016 for the match and had their best offensive output in game one.  The first frame saw DePaul register 11 kills for a .091 attack percentage, but the Bearcats also hit a match-high .385 and terminated 18 balls as they sailed to a 30-17 win.

 

The Bearcats continued to attack the ball well in the second and third set.  Cincinnati won the second game 30-16, behind a balanced attack as five players combined for 12 kills.  Cincinnati knocked down 18 kills and hit .350 to win the final game, 30-17.

 

Senior Morgan Ingersoll led the Blue Demons offense for the second consecutive match, tallying 13 kills and a .273 attack percentage.  Sophomore libero Maureen Zigulich led the defense with 16 digs, while freshman Sarah Cullen and junior Stacy Pando chipped in nine digs apiece.   

 

The Blue Demons return to the court, Friday, November 3 at USF.  The first serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at The Corral.
