Volleyball Rallies Back But Cannot Shake Cougars

CHICAGO – The Blue Demons lost to Houston Friday night at the DePaul Athletic Center in four games (30-17, 30-21, 23-30, 30-28).  The loss drops DePaul’s record to 5-21, 1-7 C-USA.

In games one and two, Houston slid past DePaul behind standout Cougar Jenny Tannenberger who led the offense. 

The Blue Demons answered back in game three with a 30-23 win led by Katie Engel and Lara Marks. 

Game four was directed by the Blue Demons until the halfway mark when Houston caught up to tie the score at 28 and eventually win. 

“We played a great game three and an even better game four up until the twenty-eighth point when the pressure was on,” said Blue Demon Coach Dawn Dockstader. 

“When we have nothing to lose, we have to play well.  We have to play each rally with the same intensity as the next.”

Katie Engel led the Blue Demon’s efforts with 21 kills and 16 digs.  Lara Marks added 14 kills and earned an attack percentage of .324.  Amie West dished out 43 assists for DePaul.

“Katie and Lara played really well offensively.  Mandy Moorberg came in a played a great game as well.”

The Blue Demons host TCU on Saturday night at 7p.m.  DePaul will also be honoring lone senior Katie Engle in her last regular season home game.
