Volleyball Wins Five Game Thriller

CHICAGO- It was an exciting senior night at the DePaul Athletic Center as the Blue Demons pulled out an exciting five-game (30-28, 23-30, 25-30, 30-28, 16-14) win over visiting Tulane in Conference USA volleyball action. DePaul improves to 12-16, 5-6 C-USA, while Tulane falls to 13-9, 4-7 C-USA.
“I am so proud of my team tonight, they all played incredible tonight,” head coach Dawn Dockstader said. “Tonight’s win was a total team effort. The women played with a never quit attitude and never gave up and that was the difference.”
DePaul took the lead from the first point and never looked back. They were hot at the net, recording 19 kills in game-one. Mandy Moorberg led the DePaul attack, registering 7 of her 19 kills in game-one.
The Blue Demons dropped games two and three by the scores of 30-23 and 30-25. Tulane middle blocker Deva Fowler recorded 12 kills for the Green Wave during that period.
In a must win situation, DePaul came into to game-four focused and pulled off a nail biting, 30-28 victory to send the match to a fifth set. Defensively, DePaul libero Ellen Hayes was all over the floor recording nine digs. Morgan Ingersoll was not to be out done by the defense, recording seven of her 23 kills in game-four.
The Blue Demons were down 3-6 in game-five, but the athletic play Goreham “blocked” Tulane efforts by putting together a 4-0 run. Goreham recorded three of her five total blocks during the four point swing. Mandy Moorberg secured the Blue Demons victory on a kill fed from senior setter Amy Holmes.
Holmes finished with a career high 64 assists, averaging 12.8 assists per game.
