DePaul Volleyball Falls to Syracuse, 3-0
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The DePaul volleyball team lost a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-14) decision to BIG EAST Conference foe Syracuse on Friday evening at the Manley Field House. The Blue Demons fall to 6-20 (0-11 BIG EAST), while the Orange improve to 19-9 (8-4 BIG EAST) on the season. Syracuse put together an impressive offensive performance which was led by six student-athletes combining for 42 kills and an impressive .270 attack percentage. Sarah Morton led the Orange with 11 kills, while DePaul's Chandler Carney paced the floor with 12 put aways. In the first frame, the Blue Demon's score mirrored Syracuse's for over half the game, until the Orange strung together a 6-1 run to take a 20-15 advantage and prompt and DePaul timeout. Coming out of the break, back-to-back Syracuse kills would extend the lead before Sarah Cullen was able to send home a kill. However, the .343 Orange clip was too great and the home team went on to take the first game 25-16. DePaul battled ferociously in the second stanza, and went point-for-point with Syracuse the entire frame. Two straight kills from the powerful swing of Carney would give the Blue Demons the 16-15 lead and forced the Orange to pause the momentum shift with a timeout. A Syracuse attack error would extend the DePaul lead, before untimely attack errors would knot the score back up once more. The score continued to swing back and forth until the very end, when, tied at 23-all, Sara Hinz terminated the final two points with kills. Syracuse controlled the tempo of the third set, hitting a .258 hitting percentage while the Blue Demons registered just eight kills. Cullen hit a respectable .375 (3-0-8) clip, but team attack errors continued to hinder the overall offensive rhythm. The Orange won the final game 25-14. Christy Landschoot accounted for 32 of DePaul's 33 assists, while Chelsea Thurlby paced the team with 11 digs. Cullen eclipsed double-digit kill totals as she tallied 10 put downs. At the net, Cullen, Molly Creek, Kate Letcher, and Lauren Blasi each assisted on a block. The Blue Demons resume their BIG EAST weekend at Marquette on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. (CST) Notes
