Pivotal Match For Volleyball
DePaul at Marquette - Friday, November 15 at 7:00p.m.
CHICAGO – It all comes down to Friday night’s match for the Blue Demons. DePaul’s last match of the regular season against Marquette will determine which of the two will clinch the right to play in the Conference USA tournament next week.
Marquette is currently in twelfth place with two wins, DePaul in thirteenth with one win, and with only the top 12 out of 14 team allowed to play in the tournament, Friday means crunch time.
If the Blue Demons win, both they and the Golden Eagles will be tied with two wins but DePaul would take the higher ranking based on head-to-head results.
“We love playing Marquette, it’s great rivalry because you throw out the records and no matter what point in the season we see them in, it’s always a battle,” said Coach Dawn Dockstader.
“A lot of our players have competed with or against each other in high school and club ball. That creates an intense and competitive atmosphere for volleyball, especially in a match that is this pivotal.”
The Golden Eagles
Marquette has posted a record of 11-14, 2-10 C-USA this season. They clinched the Marquette Challenge title earlier this season with wins over Valparaiso, Lehigh, and Austin Peay. The Golden Eagles are coached by Pati Rolf in her first season. Her leading hitters include Theresa Coughlin, Shannon Devine, and Aga Niemcezewska. Coughlin has racked up 340 kills while Devine has added 323 kills. Setting for the Golden Eagles is Gemma Greer who has led her front line with 980 assists this season.
