Volleyball Falls to Marquette at C-USA Tournament



NEW ORLEANS - The DePaul Blue Demon volleyball squad fell to Marquette in three-games (24-30, 27-30, 25-30)Friday afternoon, in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament.  The Blue Demons finish out the year 11-20 overall and 3-11 in C-USA, while Marquette improves their record to 13-15 overall.  Marquette advances to the semifinals taking on Southern Miss, while DePaul was eliminated from the tournament.

 

“I am proud how we came out today, they played tough,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said.  “We gave them a few points to start out each game and could never get them back which cost us the match”

 

The Blue Demons scored the first two points of the match but the Golden Eagles took over the game and ultimately pulled out the win, 24-30.  Defensively Ellen Hayes recorded four digs.

 

DePaul came alive in game-two recording 15 team kills.  The pair of Mandy Moorberg and Janet Goreham netted four kills apiece. DePaul went on a run late, holding the Golden Eagles at match point, for four points.  However, Marquette prevailed winning the game 30-27.

 

The Blue Demons looked alive after the break, fighting for every point, but the Golden Eagles took the game and the match 30-25.

 

DePaul tallied 41 kills and a .205 attack percentage.  Moorberg lead the offense with 12 kills, while Lara Marks recorded a team high, .312 attack percentage.  Seniors Marks, Janet Cotter and Meg Griffin tallied nine total blocks.  

 

For Marquette, Erin Freer knocked down 16 kills for a .270 attack percentage.  Setter Gemma Greer tallied 47 assists.
